Shri M L Kumawat is a decorated police officer with a career spanning over four decades in Policing and Security. He is considered as an authority in the field of Internal Security.

His rich experience includes posts of eminence in various departments as Commissioner of Police, Vishakhapatnam, Government of Andhra Pradesh(1990-1991),Chief of elite Anti-Naxal Commando Force, 'GREYHOUNDS', Andhra Pradesh(1993-1994), joint Director, Central Bureau of Investigation, (WEST ZONE) Government of India (1995-2000), Additional Director General, Law and Order, Government of Andhra Pradesh (2000-2003), Chief, Criminal Investigation Department, Government of Andhra Pradesh (2003-2004), Special Secretary, Internal Security, Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India (2007-2008), Director General, Narcotics Control Bureau, Government of India (2008), Chairman, Cease Fire Monitoring Group, Nagaland (2008), Director General Border Security Force, Government of India (2008-2009), Chairman Rajasthan Public Service Commission, Government of Rajasthan (2010-2011).

His contributions have been recognized and honored on several occasions by the Government and various honors have been bestowed upon him such as , Merit Award by Government of Rajasthan(1985), President of India Police Medal for Meritorious Service (1989), President of India Medal for Distinguished Services (1997), Gold Medal by National Defense College of India(1992).

He has attended a number of professional courses at various national and international institutions such as, University of Cambridge, UK, National Defense College, New Delhi, Indian Institute of Public Administration, New Delhi, Administrative Staff College of India, Hyderabad, National Academy of Administration, Mussoorie, National Police Academy, Hyderabad.

He has had the honor to represent the country at many occasions in different part of the world such as USA, UK, Japan, Thailand, Sri Lanka, Iran, Tajikstan, Brunei, Egypt, Ivory Coast, Vietnam, Turkey, Hungry, HongKong, France, Bangladesh & UAE. His academic interests and expertise in internal security have led him to explore different dimensions of the subjects and he has been invited to share his vision, experience and ideas through guest lectures at various organizations of repute in India such as, Army War College, Mhow, National Police Academy, Hyderabad, Observer Research Foundation, New Delhi, Rajasthan Police Academy, Jaipur, National Academy of Administration, Mussoorie, Internal Security Academy, Mount Abu.

He is regularly invited by print and electronic media for his expert comments on Internal Security.
